Japanese industrial giant Nidec Corporation has officially inaugurated its newest and largest manufacturing facility in India. Named the Orchard Hub, the campus is located in the Kotur-Belur Industrial Area of Hubli-Dharwad, in Karnataka.
The 50-acre site will serve as a major manufacturing base for several fast-growing sectors. It will produce generators for data centers and wind turbines, battery energy storage systems (BESS) for renewable energy, electric vehicle (EV) motors, controllers, EV chargers, and high-efficiency motors and drive systems. These products support clean mobility and a wide range of industrial applications.
According to Nidec, the new campus marks its eighth manufacturing site in India and reflects the company’s commitment to the country’s industrial growth and economic development. The facility will operate under Nidec’s 3Q6S lean manufacturing principles and use advanced automation to ensure high-quality output.
Plant machinery and equipment are currently being installed across the six units on the campus, with production expected to begin later this year.
The Orchard Hub is projected to generate over 1,000 direct jobs and another 1,000 indirect employment opportunities in the region.
Michael Briggs, President of Nidec Motion & Energy, said the company is investing $55 million in the project. “India’s strong economic growth offers great opportunities for global companies,” he said. “The Orchard Hub is a key part of our ‘India for India’ and ‘India for Exports’ strategy.”
Girish D. Kulkarni, President and Country Managing Director of Nidec India, emphasized the company’s long-term vision. “Our new facility in Hubli is more than just a factory — it’s a symbol of innovation, collaboration, and our commitment to India,” he said. “We are deeply thankful to our teams and to the Government of Karnataka for their continued support.”
