Toyota Motor Europe (TME) has announced that the Toyota GR Corolla will be manufactured in the United Kingdom beginning in 2026. This marks a significant step for Toyota’s performance brand, Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR), which was founded in 2009 under the guidance of then Toyota Motor Corporation executive vice president Akio Toyoda.
Since its creation, TGR has become the fastest-growing brand within Toyota. Its first model, the GR Supra, launched in 2019, followed by the GR Yaris in 2020, the GR86 in 2021, and the GR Corolla in 2022. Each new release has sparked strong customer interest. Demand for TGR vehicles has consistently exceeded supply, prompting Toyota to expand production.
Choosing Toyota Motor Manufacturing UK (TMUK) to build the GR Corolla highlights Toyota’s strategy to optimize its global production network. This decision aims to deliver vehicles to customers more quickly. It also reflects confidence in TMUK’s workforce, supply chain, and the UK’s rich motorsport expertise.
Preparations for production began in 2024, when TMUK teams and key suppliers were first notified about the project. The first GR Corolla is expected to come off the production line in 2026.
Yoshihiro Nakata, president and CEO of Toyota Motor Europe, stated: “We are proud that TMUK, our first European plant, has been chosen as the first Toyota facility outside Japan to produce GR vehicles. This expansion project demonstrates our appreciation for the UK’s historical support and the recognition of TMUK’s capabilities.
