CMG Technologies, a pioneering company based in Rendlesham, Suffolk, is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The business started in 1975 as a specialist in fibre optics. In the early 2000s, it shifted its focus to metal injection moulding (MIM). Today, CMG Technologies is recognized as a leader in British engineering, serving many customers worldwide.
The company was originally named Europlus. In 2002, it changed its name to Egide UK. Then in 2013, following a successful management buyout, it became CMG Technologies. The new name came from the initials of the three directors who led the buyout: Chris Conway, Dr. Phil Marsh, and Rachel Garrett.
Rachel Garrett, daughter of Chris Conway, joined the company in 2004. She is now the managing director. Garrett said, “Today is a proud moment and a major achievement for our business and everyone involved over the years. Like all companies, we have faced ups and downs, but we have been fortunate to have an amazing team. Their support and creativity have helped us keep moving forward.”
CMG Technologies has offered MIM and 3-D printing solutions to many well-known clients. The company gained attention during the Covid-19 pandemic for producing parts used in ventilators. Under Garrett’s leadership, the company also became an early supporter of the four-day workweek. This change aimed to improve employees’ work-life balance and has helped increase profits. The initiative received national recognition.
Now, CMG Technologies is part of the INDO-MIM group. This group is led by the world’s largest specialists in MIM technology. Garrett added, “Our company culture has remained strong through the years. We are a close team that supports each other. We have shared many highs and lows, including the loss of my father in 2018. We are proud to continue his legacy in all that we do. CMG Technologies is moving forward with new ideas, and we look forward to many more years of innovation and teamwork.”
