At the recent China Print tradeshow in Beijing, Heidelberg presented its new Speedmaster CX 104 press. The machine was showcased in a special CX 104-8+LYY-1+L setup. Heidelberg described it as the “longest 13-unit offset machine in exhibition history.”
The Speedmaster CX 104 can print on many materials. It works well with light paper as well as thicker carton stock used for packaging.
This press allows operators to switch easily between traditional and instant drying UV inks. It also features an extra washing cycle for the inking unit, blanket, and printing cylinder, which helps maintain print quality.
The machine runs at high speeds of up to 16,500 sheets per hour. It uses smart systems like Intellistart 3 and Intelliline. These systems speed up job changes by automating tasks and providing full process transparency. Another improvement is the anilox roller change in the coating unit, which makes setup faster, safer, and easier.
The press is controlled through the Prinect Press Center XL 3. This system allows remote adjustments for register settings, press pressure, and outlet control.
The LYY-1+L part of the configuration refers to an extended double coating system.
Benny Huang, CEO of Heidelberg Greater China, said the company is investing heavily in China. He explained that demand for Heidelberg machines in the country is growing steadily. “Print volumes in China increase year after year,” Huang said. “Our technology is key as we aim to expand our market share here.”
Huang also noted that Heidelberg machines help customers stay competitive. He praised the company’s Shanghai factory as a success for both business and clients.
At the show, Heidelberg also displayed its flagship Speedmaster XL 75-8+L press. This A2 format machine offers many options for commercial, label, and packaging printing. It supports a 50 x 70 cm format and includes features like Push to Stop, Intellistart 3, and Intelliline.
Heidelberg also introduced the Jetfire 50 digital print system at the exhibition. Announced earlier at drupa 2024, the Jetfire 50 uses inkjet technology developed with Canon. This marks Heidelberg’s move into industrial digital commercial printing.
The Jetfire 50 can print a wide range of products up to B3 size, including brochures, flyers, cards, and posters. Visitors at the show had the chance to test their own print jobs on the machine.
