Venwind Refex Power Ltd, a new subsidiary of Refex Industries Ltd, has announced an investment of ₹800 crore. The money will be used to build a manufacturing facility for advanced wind turbines with a capacity of 5.3 megawatts. The company aims to create a strong manufacturing base in India to support the country’s growing renewable energy needs.
This move comes after Venwind Refex signed a licensing agreement with Vensys Energy AG, a German company known for its wind turbine technology. Vensys is a leader in permanent magnet, medium-speed generator systems. Through this partnership, Venwind Refex will have access to Vensys’ advanced technology, which is known for its efficiency and ability to perform well in various wind conditions.
Entering the wind turbine manufacturing sector marks a new chapter for Refex Industries. The company is publicly listed and has interests in areas such as refrigeration gases, renewable power generation, ash and coal handling, power trading, pharmaceuticals, medical technology, and sustainable mobility. The new venture is led by Madhusudan Khemka, an industry veteran who previously worked at ReGen Powertech. Khemka played a key role in bringing together Refex Group and Vensys, using his strong relationship with the German company.
Mr. Khemka explained that the 5.3 MW turbine uses a hybrid design that combines features of both geared and gearless systems. This design is ideal for areas with low wind speeds. The turbine has a cut-in wind speed of just 2 metres per second, making it well-suited for states like Odisha and Jharkhand. These states have plenty of land but moderate wind intensity. The Vensys technology is also used by Goldwind, a global leader in wind energy, which shows that the platform Venwind Refex is adopting is proven and scalable.
Venwind Refex Power Limited was established in December 2024 as a joint venture between Refex Industries and Venwind. The company aims to transform wind energy in India by focusing on innovation and sustainability. With an exclusive license from Vensys Energy AG, Venwind Refex manufactures 5.3 MW wind turbines that use permanent magnet generators and hybrid drivetrain technology.
Vensys’ technology is well-established, with over 120 gigawatts of turbines operating worldwide. Venwind Refex plans to reach an annual production capacity of 5 gigawatts within five years. The company’s goal is to provide affordable, reliable, and advanced wind energy solutions to support India’s renewable energy sector and promote a sustainable future.
