Revopoint Launches Trackit: A High-Precision Optical Tracking Scanner for Industrial Use

by sthv

Revopoint 3D, a company based in Los Angeles, California, has introduced the Revopoint Trackit. This new device combines optical tracking with blue laser 3D scanning to provide highly accurate scans of objects without the need for markers. It is designed for use in industrial settings and can scan items of various sizes.

3D models are increasingly important across many industries, including virtual reality and advanced manufacturing. Trackit aims to make the scanning process easier and faster, helping users be more productive. Its smart optical tracking technology allows the scanner to follow its own position in space as it moves, eliminating the need to place markers on the object being scanned.

The system includes an automated gimbal calibration feature that ensures accurate scans in any environment. This feature also speeds up the calibration process, completing it in just 25 minutes. This is up to twice as fast as other optical tracking scanners that require manual calibration. Additionally, Trackit’s frame is made from a single piece of carbon fiber. This design reduces errors caused by shifting markers or damage from handling or transport.

Two Scanning Modes for Different Needs

Trackit offers two scanning modes to suit different tasks. One mode uses 30 blue laser cross-lines to quickly capture surface details, even on shiny or dark objects. The other mode uses a single laser line to scan deep holes and tight spaces.

Accurately measuring irregular parts is often difficult in reverse engineering. Jonathan Mitchelson, a mechanical engineer, praised Trackit for its performance on a complex brake shaft. He explained, “I scanned the outer surface with the 30 cross-line mode, then switched to the single-line mode for the deep keyways. I did this without using any markers or sprays. The auto-calibration took only three clicks. The result was a watertight 3D model, ready for reverse engineering and upgrades. It’s a real game-changer.”

Trackit is capable of scanning objects ranging from small coins to large vehicles with strong accuracy. Its marker-free scanning achieves a volumetric accuracy of 0.025 mm plus 0.04 mm per meter of object length. This ensures reliable measurements no matter the size of the workpiece. The system’s dual-camera optical tracking base can cover a large area and be repositioned easily. It can scan surfaces up to 2800 by 2800 millimeters within a range of 4000 millimeters.
