Škoda has been driven by a passion for design for over 130 years. The brand’s classic models continue to inspire its design teams. To celebrate these historic vehicles, Škoda has created a series of modern reinterpretations of its iconic designs. The latest concept is the boldest so far and the first to feature Škoda’s new ‘Modern Solid’ design style.
This new concept combines simplicity with strength. It highlights bold shapes, clean lines, and practical forms. The design also reflects Škoda’s move toward electric vehicles, sustainability, and digital technology. The motorcycle takes its inspiration from the Slavia B, a model created under the Laurin & Klement name — the company that later became Škoda Auto. Back in its day, the Slavia B was seen as very advanced and helped build the brand’s reputation for innovation.
The project was led by French designer Romain Bucaille, who usually designs the exteriors of Škoda cars. He said, “I wanted to return to the brand’s roots. As a motorcycle enthusiast, this was a fresh and exciting challenge.”
Honoring a Sporting Legacy
The front of the concept bike pays tribute to Václav Laurin’s early work on motorcycle design and handling. A simple, floating seat and an integrated leather tool bag reference the bike’s racing history. These features subtly honor Narcis Podsedníček, a factory rider who famously finished the 1901 Paris-Berlin race on a Slavia B motorcycle.
Mr. Bucaille described the design process as very hands-on from the beginning. “I started with pencil sketches. Although it had been a while since I drew a motorcycle, sketching on paper is immediate. You don’t need a screen — just ideas flowing freely.”
The sketches developed into three digital renderings, each exploring different shapes and ideas. From these, the final design took shape. While this reinterpretation of the Slavia B will not be produced, it serves as a strong statement of Škoda’s design direction. The company says that with more classic reworkings planned, it is clear that Škoda’s future is deeply connected to its rich and creative past.
