French heavy lifting specialist Mediaco Heavy Lift successfully used an Enerpac SL200 hydraulic gantry system to move a large industrial lathe from a factory in La Buffière. The machine, measuring 13 meters in length, was lifted and loaded onto a flatbed truck using the compact gantry in a single operation, despite the limited working space.
The relocation began with the removal of the lathe beam. The Enerpac SL200 gantry lifted the 46-tonne beam, which measured 13 meters long, 2.2 meters wide, and 2.7 meters high. While the beam was suspended, Mediaco’s team slid out the guide rails beneath it. This allowed the flatbed truck to move into position and receive the load safely.
The same technique was later used for the lathe’s turntable. This piece weighed 41 tonnes, had a diameter of 5.9 meters, and stood 0.7 meters tall. Both lifts were completed with care and accuracy using the gantry system.
Mediaco had installed the lathe previously and was already familiar with the limited space inside the factory. The team relied on the Enerpac SL200 to deliver the lifting power required without the need for larger equipment like cranes. The gantry’s compact size and precise movement made it the right tool for the job.
Site manager Jean-Baptiste Rault led the project, supported by operator Tom Grissault. “The Enerpac SL200 is ideal for this type of project thanks to the gantry’s small footprint,” said Rault. “It gives us an efficient and practical alternative when a crane cannot be used.”
