The Miami Marlins are taking batting practice to the next level with Trajekt, an advanced pitching machine that mimics real MLB pitchers with stunning precision.
One of only a few in the majors, the machine projects a life-sized video of an opposing pitcher and throws pitches just like them—down to the speed, movement, and release point.
A Near-Real Game Experience
Housed in the Marlins’ batting cage, Trajekt can replicate any pitcher’s arsenal. Before facing the Cincinnati Reds, for example, Marlins hitters practiced against digital versions of Nick Martinez’s curveballs, fastballs, and sliders.
“It’s a pretty high-tech pitching machine,” said infielder Connor Norby. “You get every pitch, exactly how it moves, dialed in perfectly.”
Coaches load data into the system to match an upcoming opponent’s pitches. Players can take up to 10 simulated at-bats against a starter before the real game.
Making Practice Tougher Than Ever
Hitting coach Pedro Guerrero says Trajekt is a game-changer because it replicates timing and release points—something traditional pitching machines can’t do.
“We’re trying to simulate the pitcher we’ll face that night as closely as possible,” Guerrero said.
Players can even use the machine between innings for quick adjustments.
“Are we making practice harder? Absolutely,” Guerrero added. “This helps hitters prepare like never before.”
The Marlins hope the cutting-edge tool will give them an edge at the plate this season.
