Zenvo Automotive, a Danish manufacturer known for its exclusive hypercars, is in the process of building its revolutionary ‘Mjølner’ engine, set to power the upcoming Aurora. The new engine, featuring four turbochargers, will generate an impressive 1,250 horsepower, with the potential to reach 1,850 horsepower when paired with an electric hybrid system. This makes it the most powerful V12 engine ever designed for a production road car.
The Mjølner engine is being developed in collaboration with MAHLE Powertrain, which is also responsible for building the hybrid system at its facility in Northampton. The core of the Aurora is a specially designed, 6.6-litre V12 engine, built to meet both performance and future emissions standards.
Jens Sverdrup, Chairman of Zenvo Automotive, emphasized that the Mjølner engine design blends decades of experience in road car development while pushing the limits of what’s possible in terms of performance. He noted, “Every aspect of this engine, from its initial design to its driver engagement and comfort features, has been carefully considered. Despite its extreme performance with a redline of 9,800 rpm, this is a custom-built road engine, not one derived from motorsport, ensuring it is suitable for everyday use while meeting global emissions regulations.”
The Mjølner engine will incorporate MAHLE’s Jet Ignition system, which has been in development for over ten years. This system is a crucial component for achieving ‘Lambda1’ operation, a technology required for future emissions compliance. The V12 engine marks the first implementation of a new modular architecture from Zenvo, which will be adapted for future models across the company’s lineup.
John Hollingworth, Sales and Marketing Director at MAHLE Powertrain, shared his excitement about the project’s progress. He stated, “We’ve faced significant engineering challenges, but our teams have risen to the occasion at every stage. Now, as we enter the next phase of engine testing, it’s a major milestone. We’re all eager to hear the first roar of the Mjølner engine – it promises to be something truly unique.”
Zenvo Automotive, founded in 2007 and based in Præstø, Denmark, specializes in producing limited edition hypercars. In 2023, the company unveiled the Aurora, a V12 hypercar available in two versions: the track-focused ‘Agil’ and the more classic GT ‘Tur.’ Both models will be produced in very limited numbers, with the first deliveries expected by the end of 2026.
