Fabweld Steel Products Wins King’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainability

by sthv

Fabweld Steel Products Ltd (FSP), a manufacturing firm based in Telford, has received the prestigious King’s Award for Enterprise in recognition of its efforts toward sustainable development.

The company, founded in 1998, specialises in designing and producing standard and custom access covers—commonly known as manhole covers—as well as other steel fabrications. FSP supplies a range of sectors, including construction, water, energy, and security.

In recent years, FSP has made significant strides in reducing its environmental impact. The company invested heavily in solar energy systems and installed on-site equipment to produce nitrogen, helping cut carbon emissions. Since most of its emissions stem from steel use, FSP has also prioritised working with suppliers who are actively moving toward net zero steel production.

“It is an absolute privilege to receive the highest honour that can be bestowed on a UK business,” Carter said. “This achievement is a testament to every member of the Fabweld team. We’ve made real progress by improving product design, investing in staff training, and engaging with our local community. We also share profits within the business to support wider sustainability goals.”

He added that the company’s actions reflect a clear and determined commitment to generating positive and measurable results—for both the business and the environment.

His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Shropshire, Mrs Anna Turner JP, congratulated the company.

“Fabweld’s recognition with a King’s Award for Enterprise is a true honour,” she said. “This award is a Royal Seal of Approval and comes with high standards. Fabweld is one of only two winners in Shropshire this year and can now use the award’s emblem for five years. They’ll also receive national media attention and be invited to a Royal reception.”

The King’s Award for Enterprise, formerly known as The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise, was renamed in 2023 to continue the legacy of the late Queen Elizabeth II. It remains the UK’s highest business accolade.

Now in its 59th year, the award highlights the achievements of exceptional UK companies. Winners gain the right to use the King’s Award emblem for five years as a mark of excellence.
