CenterPoint Energy has donated a backup generator to the Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management in Texas, as part of its ongoing effort to strengthen local emergency response capabilities.
The donation is part of CenterPoint’s Community Generator Donation Program, a regional initiative supported by the CenterPoint Energy Foundation. The program aims to provide more than 20 backup generators to key sites across the company’s 12-county Greater Houston service area.
Company officials worked closely with local emergency management teams, county officials, and city leaders to identify where the generators would be most useful. Selected locations were chosen for their ability to provide broad community support in times of crisis.
The backup generators will be fully funded by a $5 million grant from the CenterPoint Energy Foundation. Customers will not bear any of the cost.
“These generators are each powerful enough to support a large building,” said June Deadrick, CenterPoint’s vice president of Community Relations. “They will play a key role in helping our communities remain resilient during severe weather or other emergencies.”
The donated generators will help essential facilities continue operating during power outages. These facilities will provide critical services such as medical care, cooling centers, charging stations, food and water distribution, and other emergency support functions.
Montgomery County Judge Mark Keough expressed his gratitude for the donation, emphasizing its role in local disaster readiness.
“We are deeply grateful to the CenterPoint Energy Foundation for this mobile generator,” Keough said. “It will be a vital tool for keeping our operations running and supporting response teams during disasters. This donation will help us stay ready and resilient when our community needs us most.”
CenterPoint Energy is a Houston-based electric and natural gas delivery company serving about 7 million metered customers across Indiana, Minnesota, Ohio, and Texas.
