Volvo Cars has unveiled Abbey Road Studios Mode, a new sound technology that recreates the unique acoustic environment of the legendary Abbey Road Studios. This feature is now available globally in the Volvo EX90 models equipped with the optional Bowers & Wilkins High Fidelity Audio system.
The sound mode, announced last year, will be delivered free of charge through an over-the-air update rolling out in the coming weeks. Developed in partnership with Bowers & Wilkins and Abbey Road Studios, the technology captures the distinctive sound qualities of the studio’s spaces and equipment, which have shaped some of music’s most famous albums.
Abbey Road Studios Mode offers several preset sound profiles tailored to different listening preferences. For users who want more control, the new Producer Mode lets drivers customize their audio experience by adjusting the sound from vintage to modern tones, changing the stereo width, and modifying the acoustic environment—much like a music producer would.

This update is one of Volvo’s biggest software enhancements to date, aligning with the company’s goal to constantly improve its software-defined vehicles. New EX90 and ES90 models with the Bowers & Wilkins system will come with Abbey Road Studios Mode pre-installed from the factory.

The EX90 features one of Volvo’s quietest cabins and includes 25 strategically placed speakers. The premium Bowers & Wilkins audio system delivers an impressive 1610-watt sound output, supports Dolby Atmos, and has been fine-tuned by engineers from both companies.
Thanks to recent technological advances, Volvo can now send over-the-air updates to around 2.5 million vehicles made since 2020, spanning 85 countries worldwide.
