Hexagon, a global leader in precision technologies, has officially completed the acquisition of the Geomagic software business from 3D Systems Corp. This acquisition enhances Hexagon’s capabilities in providing technologies that improve productivity for professionals involved in acquiring, manipulating, and reverse engineering 3D measurement data used throughout the product lifecycle and computer-aided design (CAD) workflows.
The Geomagic software will be integrated into Hexagon’s Manufacturing Intelligence division. The software solutions will be primarily offered to the discrete manufacturing market but will also complement Hexagon’s existing portfolios in industries such as mining and construction. The suite of Geomagic software includes tools for measurement and quality control, mesh and surface model creation, and efficient reverse engineering through parametric scan-to-CAD workflows.
Josh Weiss, president of Hexagon’s Manufacturing Intelligence division, expressed excitement about the acquisition, stating, “We are thrilled to welcome Geomagic to Hexagon. Their software and team have been pioneers in creating powerful and intuitive scan-based tools for reverse engineering, inspection, and design. These tools are critical to the success of the manufacturing industry and provide valuable support to global customers, partners, and hardware OEMs.”
Weiss also emphasized Hexagon’s commitment to supporting all current hardware and software partnerships for Geomagic customers. The company plans to further invest in the software’s development, offering new capabilities and enhanced productivity to users of portable metrology devices.
A notable feature of the Geomagic suite is its compatibility with any 3D scanner or portable Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM). The software supports reverse engineering and metrology workflows with a wide range of scanning devices, including optical, laser, and LiDAR scanners from various vendors. Additionally, Hexagon will continue providing global customers with access to the complete software portfolio, which supports native CAD and Product Manufacturing Information (PMI) data import from major software like Dassault CATIA, PTC Creo, Autodesk Inventor, Siemens NX, and Dassault SolidWorks.
