Swiss engineering firm Bruderer AG has opened a new £10 million ‘centre of manufacturing excellence’ in Telford, marking a significant commitment to the future of UK manufacturing.
The 10,000-square-metre site, located in the Hortonwood industrial park, now serves as the new UK base for Bruderer, a global leader in high-speed precision presses. This move comes 57 years after the company first established its UK operations.
From Luton to Telford: A Strategic Move
Bruderer UK Ltd has relocated its entire operation from Luton to the modern, purpose-built facility. The new site features a competence centre where customers can view live demonstrations of cutting-edge presses, explore certified pre-owned machines, and see fully integrated production lines in action.
For the first time, Bruderer will be able to offer direct insights into its full product range. This includes the latest presses, servo feeders, decoilers, and tool-proving systems for multi-progression press tools. The relocation has also led to an expansion of the workforce, now totaling 14 employees. The company aims to support advanced production for key industries, such as automotive, aerospace, electronics, construction, food, medical, electric vehicles, and renewable energy.
An Investment in British Industry
Adrian Haller, Managing Director of Bruderer UK, said the project is more than just business growth. “This isn’t just an investment in our business, it’s an investment in UK manufacturing,” he said. “We want to show that we are committed to supporting our UK customers for the next 50 years.”
He highlighted the opportunity to design the new factory from the ground up. “We have brought together top engineering talent and cutting-edge technology to create a true centre of excellence.”
One of the facility’s key features is a 25-tonne crane, which allows heavy machinery to be easily moved during refurbishments. The showroom has space to display two complete turnkey production lines, demonstrating Bruderer’s full capabilities.
Designed for Innovation and Sustainability
To bring their vision to life, Bruderer worked with construction and design experts McPhillips, Cyril Orchard Group, and Design and Planning Associates. Together, they created a bespoke building with a sleek, modern look that reflects the company’s Swiss heritage and market-leading status.
The site was built with sustainability in mind. It includes air source heat pumps, thermal management systems, and photovoltaic panels on the roof to reduce energy use and lower carbon emissions.
A Call to Action for Government Support
As the factory opened, Haller also addressed the challenges facing UK manufacturing. He called on the Government to roll back recent tax changes and to introduce a fully funded Industrial Strategy that supports small and medium-sized businesses.
“We’ve shown our belief in the UK by investing in this new centre,” Haller said. “Now it’s time for the Government to show its belief in UK manufacturing. We need leaders like Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves to reboot the economy and implement policies that allow businesses like ours to grow.”
