NxtCell India has announced a strategic partnership with Padget Electronics, a manufacturing unit of Dixon Technologies, to begin local production of Alcatel smartphones. This move marks the return of the French tech brand to the Indian market after a gap of seven years.
Atul Vivek, Chief Business Officer at NxtCell India, confirmed that the company has set up a production capacity of 1.2 million smartphones per year. The locally assembled Alcatel smartphones are expected to hit the market within the next 8 to 10 weeks.
“We’ve joined hands with Dixon Technologies’ Padget Electronics to manufacture a range of Alcatel devices. Our initial goal is to produce 1.2 million smartphones annually, and we will expand into other product categories over time,” said Vivek.
NxtCell has invested around USD 30 million (approximately ₹260 crore) in this initiative. The company plans to launch smartphones priced between ₹20,000 and ₹25,000. These will include features like a stylus—usually found only in premium devices costing over ₹80,000. The phones will be available for purchase online through Flipkart.
Ansh Rathi, Chief Operating Officer of NxtCell India, added that 500 workers will be employed at the Padget Electronics plant. Out of these, 200 will focus exclusively on manufacturing Alcatel devices.
“Our team has ensured a smooth technology transfer. We are using advanced manufacturing systems in India to support the ‘Make in India’ mission,” said Rathi.
NxtCell India is a fully Indian-owned company. It holds exclusive rights to market and distribute Alcatel products in India and some international markets. The company is based in Gurgaon and is leading efforts to bring back the Alcatel brand to Indian consumers.
Padget Electronics, NxtCell’s manufacturing partner, is a part of Dixon Technologies—one of India’s leading electronics manufacturing service (EMS) providers. Dixon offers services across multiple sectors including consumer electronics, appliances, lighting, and mobile phones. Headquartered in Noida, the company supports the government’s “Make in India” initiative by reducing reliance on imports and boosting domestic production.
With strong infrastructure and a reputation for quality and innovation, Dixon Technologies continues to be a preferred partner for both global and Indian electronics brands.
