Women In Need Inc., a nonprofit serving domestic violence survivors in Northeast Texas, has received a grant from the Texas Bar Foundation to install an emergency backup generator at its Rockwall office. The generator will help the organization continue providing critical services during power outages or natural disasters.
“This generator is more than a piece of equipment—it’s a promise to our clients that they will have a safe and responsive place to turn, even during crisis,” said Kristen Ostertag, executive director of Women In Need. “We are incredibly grateful to the Texas Bar Foundation for believing in our mission and helping us provide stability and safety for those in need.”
The new generator will allow the organization to maintain essential services such as open phone lines, operational security systems, and shelter access even during severe weather or utility disruptions.
The grant was awarded through Women In Need’s “Powering Hope, Securing Safety” initiative. This project is designed to ensure that emergency resources remain accessible during times of crisis.
Women In Need has been serving North Texas communities for over 40 years. The organization provides 24/7 support, emergency shelter, legal advocacy, and outreach programs to individuals and families affected by domestic violence.
The Texas Bar Foundation has awarded more than $29 million in grants since its founding in 1965, supporting legal services and justice-related initiatives across the state.
With this new support, Women In Need is better equipped to stay operational during emergencies—offering a lifeline to those who need it most.
