Leapmotor has officially launched the 2026 model year of its C16 SUV in China, offering a new five-seat version. Prices for the updated model start at 151,800 yuan (approximately USD 21,130). The large new energy SUV now features over 70 upgrades, including advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and a built-in refrigerator.
Design and Dimensions
The updated C16 retains the same exterior design as its predecessor. It features a minimalist look with a slim front LED light bar, retractable door handles, and a large front air intake. The SUV measures 4,915 mm in length, 1,905 mm in width, and 1,770 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,825 mm, giving it a spacious interior.
Interior and New Features
One of the most notable updates is the introduction of a five-seat layout, in addition to the existing six-seat (2+2+2) option. The five-seat version offers more comfort features, including ventilation, heating, and massage functions for four seats. With the second-row seats folded, it also provides a large trunk space of up to 1,663 liters.
The 2026 C16 now comes with an 8.1-liter refrigerator that also supports heating. It runs on the Snapdragon 8295 chipset and includes a LiDAR sensor powered by the Qualcomm 8650 processor. The sensor system supports peak computing power of up to 100 TOPS. In total, the C16 includes five mm-wave radars, 12 cameras, and 12 parking sensors for enhanced safety and automation.
Powertrain Options and Performance
The fully electric (BEV) version of the C16 uses an 800V high-voltage platform. The entry-level model’s lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery has been upgraded from 67.7 kWh to 74.9 kWh, extending its driving range to 580 km — 60 km more than the previous model. The top-tier BEV version gets an 81.9 kWh battery, offering up to 630 km of range under CLTC testing. Both versions feature a single rear-mounted electric motor producing 220 kW (295 hp).
The extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) version includes a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine that functions as a generator, producing 70 kW (94 hp). It is paired with either a 28.4 kWh or a 38.7 kWh battery, offering an electric range between 200 and 280 km (CLTC). This variant also features a 170 kW (228 hp) electric motor on the rear axle.
Pricing and Availability
The 2026 Leapmotor C16 is now available in China, with prices ranging from 151,800 yuan to 181,800 yuan (USD 21,130 to USD 25,300). This makes the new version slightly more affordable than the 2024 model, which had a higher starting price.
More detailed pricing for each specific model variant is expected to be announced soon.
