DAA increases fuel subsidy for generators, extends generator operation time

by sthv

According to sources, the Autonomous Administration has approved a plan to increase fuel subsidies for generators, allowing them to operate up to 16 hours a day. The move is part of a broad effort to improve public services and enhance the quality of life of residents.

Previously, the fuel subsidy only covered generators that operated for eight hours a day. Operators had to purchase additional diesel at market prices, which increased costs for operators and users. Under the new decision, generators that operate for 16 hours a day in all areas under the jurisdiction of the Autonomous Administration will now receive diesel subsidies.

The change was finalized after a meeting with stakeholders. The move is aimed at providing electricity supply for longer periods of time in response to rising temperatures and frequent power outages. The Autonomous Administration has been given full responsibility for the financial and administrative management of this subsidy. Diesel will be sold at a subsidized service price of 125 Syrian pounds per liter. The remaining cost (5,375 Syrian pounds per liter) will be borne by the Autonomous Administration to reduce the burden on the public.

The distribution and supervision of diesel will be the responsibility of specialized committees. These teams will ensure that diesel is distributed equitably, based on the needs of each community. They will also conduct routine inspections to monitor diesel compliance. Violations, such as reducing the number of hours a generator is running or interfering with operations, will be penalized. Repeated violations could result in the seizure of the generator.

Officials also discussed setting a standard price for amperes in line with the new diesel prices. A follow-up meeting will be held soon to finalize the number of hours and ampere pricing. The new framework will be officially announced on June 25, 2025, and implementation is expected to begin in early July.

The move is part of the autonomous administration’s broader strategy to support citizens and stabilize electricity services. The region is currently facing challenges due to the ongoing Turkish attacks that have damaged electricity infrastructure.

Officials stressed that the goal is to make electricity more stable and reduce costs for households already affected by conflict and infrastructure damage.
