The Government Medical College Hospital (MCH) in Ernakulam has introduced a new urine toxicology analyser in its casualty wing. This machine provides test results in just 15 minutes, quickly identifying risks related to cardiac arrest and substance abuse.
The device can perform both cardiac enzyme tests and drug panel tests. These tests will be offered free of charge to families below the poverty line. The machine can also detect substance abuse through a urine sample.
Specifically, it can identify the presence of nine different drugs: amphetamines, methamphetamine, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methadone metabolite, opiates, cannabinoids, and tricyclic antidepressants.
