Vestas has announced the acquisition of LM Wind Power’s blade factory in Goleniów, located near Szczecin, Poland. The deal, the financial details of which were not disclosed, strengthens Vestas’s manufacturing presence in Europe. The factory, which produces blades for Vestas’s onshore wind turbines, will continue to support the growing demand for renewable energy across Poland and the European Union (EU).
Anders Nielsen, Vestas’s Chief Technology and Operations Officer, commented on the strategic importance of the deal: “Europe’s need for secure, affordable, and sustainable energy has never been greater. This acquisition allows us to expand our European manufacturing capabilities and contribute further to wind energy’s role in Europe’s energy future. We are grateful to LM Wind Power for their collaboration, and we’re pleased to see this factory transition to Vestas’s ownership, ensuring its continued operation as part of our growth in the region.”
LM Wind Power’s CEO, Hanif Mashal, explained that the sale is part of a strategic shift for the company and its parent, GE Vernova. “This move will simplify our operations and allow us to reinvest in our core manufacturing facilities within the EU, focusing on GE Vernova’s wind products. We’re thankful for the opportunity to transfer this factory to Vestas and will work closely to ensure a smooth transition.”
The Goleniów factory was established in 2009 and expanded in 2017. It will continue producing blades for Vestas’s onshore wind turbines, including the V172-7.2MW model. The transaction is pending regulatory approval.
Vestas, which designs, manufactures, installs, and services both onshore and offshore wind turbines worldwide, has installed more than 190 GW of wind capacity across 88 countries, making it the leader in global wind power installations.
