ABB has agreed to acquire BrightLoop, a French company known for its advanced power electronics. This acquisition will support ABB’s efforts to expand electrification in industrial mobility and marine propulsion.
BrightLoop’s technology will help ABB offer powerful, compact, and reliable power conversion systems. These systems are suited for tough industries such as construction, mining, and marine transportation. The acquisition is expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2025, after receiving regulatory approval. Financial details of the deal have not been made public.
Under the agreement, ABB will first buy a 93% stake in BrightLoop. It plans to acquire the remaining 7% by 2028. BrightLoop’s current management team will continue to run the company after the acquisition.
Founded in 2010 and based in Paris, BrightLoop employs about 90 people. The company earned around 16 million euros in revenue in 2024. It has grown quickly as more industries move toward electrification.
BrightLoop makes a range of high- and low-voltage DC/DC converters. These devices efficiently manage power flow in both directions. The converters are compact and scalable to fit different needs. Originally developed for motorsports, BrightLoop’s technology is now used in every vehicle competing in the ABB FIA Formula E championship. This shows the reliability and efficiency of its power conversion solutions.
Today, BrightLoop’s technology is also applied in off-highway transportation, marine, aerospace, hydrogen mobility, and defense sectors.
The company’s converters are built to work in harsh environments. They are designed with a focus on space, weight, and reliability. These features make the converters ideal for industrial and marine electrification. Using BrightLoop’s technology improves energy efficiency, cuts fuel use, and lowers maintenance and emissions. This leads to reduced operating costs for vehicles and vessels. BrightLoop uses advanced semiconductors like silicon carbide and gallium nitride, making it a leader in high-efficiency power electronics.
