ABB to Acquire BrightLoop, Strengthening Electrification in Off-Highway and Marine Sectors

by sthv

ABB has agreed to acquire BrightLoop, a French company known for its advanced power electronics. This acquisition will support ABB’s efforts to expand electrification in industrial mobility and marine propulsion.

BrightLoop’s technology will help ABB offer powerful, compact, and reliable power conversion systems. These systems are suited for tough industries such as construction, mining, and marine transportation. The acquisition is expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2025, after receiving regulatory approval. Financial details of the deal have not been made public.

Today, BrightLoop’s technology is also applied in off-highway transportation, marine, aerospace, hydrogen mobility, and defense sectors.

The company’s converters are built to work in harsh environments. They are designed with a focus on space, weight, and reliability. These features make the converters ideal for industrial and marine electrification. Using BrightLoop’s technology improves energy efficiency, cuts fuel use, and lowers maintenance and emissions. This leads to reduced operating costs for vehicles and vessels. BrightLoop uses advanced semiconductors like silicon carbide and gallium nitride, making it a leader in high-efficiency power electronics.

Edgar Keller, President of ABB’s Traction division, said, “This acquisition is an important step toward making transportation industries more efficient and sustainable. BrightLoop’s expertise and technology will help us offer better value to customers moving to cleaner, smarter energy systems.”

Florent Liffran, CEO of BrightLoop, shared his enthusiasm about the deal: “We are excited to join ABB. Together, with our shared passion for power conversion and ABB’s global reach, we can support large-scale electrification. We will drive innovation and deliver top-quality products to fast-growing markets.”

By integrating BrightLoop’s technology, ABB plans to increase its installed base, improve digital capabilities, and speed up innovation in its electrification products. ABB will keep BrightLoop’s engineering and manufacturing operations in France, while also growing its presence worldwide.

Together, ABB and BrightLoop aim to advance the energy transition through smart and sustainable power conversion solutions.
