Pionix GmbH, a company known for its open-source electric vehicle (EV) charging technology, has introduced a new product called ChargeBridge. Announced on May 7, 2025, ChargeBridge is a compact hardware module designed to make it easier and faster for companies to develop EV charging controllers.
The key feature of ChargeBridge is its modular design. It separates safety-critical hardware functions from the software. This allows companies to focus on software innovation while using a ready-made, pre-certified hardware base. As a result, manufacturers can bring their products to market more quickly and meet the rising demand for reliable EV charging infrastructure.
ChargeBridge manages important hardware tasks. These include establishing a connection between the EV and the charger and following safety protocols such as ISO 15118. Because the module is already certified, manufacturers don’t need to spend time and money certifying their own hardware systems.
ChargeBridge works alongside BaseCamp, Pionix’s software platform built on the open-source EVerest project. With this combination, developers can create advanced features for smart charging systems without worrying about hardware development.
The design of ChargeBridge also helps companies save time by allowing software updates without touching the hardware. It reduces wiring complexity and supports different types of charging setups, making it more adaptable to real-world needs.
Pionix CEO Marco Möller said, “ChargeBridge solves a major problem in the industry. Hardware teams often repeat the same tasks, which slows down progress. With ChargeBridge, we offer a stable base that helps developers build future-ready charging systems faster.”
