Chell Instruments, a leading provider of gas measurement and control solutions, has donated its latest pressure scanner to a Hungarian university’s Formula Student Electric team. This donation aims to assist the Széchenyi István University’s Arrabona Racing Team in the development of their electric vehicle. The team now has access to the cutting-edge nanoDAQ-LTS-16 pressure scanner and a quick-start cable, enabling them to collect precise aerodynamic data during on-track testing.
Jamie Shanahan, director at Chell Instruments, commented, “The Arrabona Racing Team is an impressive group of aspiring engineers with a strong track record in Formula Student racing and vehicle design. When we learned of their goal to transition to Formula Electric and the aerodynamic challenges they would face, we were eager to provide the technology to help advance their design.”
Founded in 2014, the Arrabona Racing Team has produced 11 race cars and secured multiple podium finishes in various competitions. The team had a standout performance in the 2023/24 season, finishing third at the FS Austria competition, first at FS East, and winning a total of 13 awards.
Expanding into Electric Vehicle Development
Following a successful season, the team decided to take on a new challenge in the electric vehicle category. Developing a new Formula-style electric vehicle (EV) requires a range of advanced sensors and scanners to monitor performance and gather data.
By using the lightweight nanoDAQ-LTS-16 pressure scanner from Chell Instruments, the team will be able to gather critical real-world data during track testing. This will provide better insights into the airflow around the vehicle, allowing the team to improve components such as the front and rear wings, sidepods, and under tray.
László Szörényi, a member of the team’s aerodynamics department, stated, “Aerodynamics are crucial in the development phase, and it’s essential to test and validate our designs. Our transition to Formula Electric required significant financial investment, so we were thrilled when Chell Instruments agreed to support us with their latest pressure scanner.”
