Tesla, a leader in the electric vehicle market, is preparing to pause production of its Model Y and Cybertruck at its Austin, Texas plant.
The company informed workers that production will stop on June 30 and resume the following week. This brief pause will allow Tesla to maintain its production lines and make improvements aimed at increasing future output.
According to Business Insider, temporary production halts for upgrades are common in the automotive industry. Although this pause is not unusual, it caused Tesla’s stock to drop by nearly 4%.
Tesla plans to boost production of the recently updated Model Y, anticipating higher sales soon. However, the Cybertruck’s production outlook appears less optimistic. Earlier this year, Tesla lowered its manufacturing targets for the electric pickup, and the production lines are currently running below full capacity.
CEO Elon Musk once projected annual Cybertruck production between 250,000 and 500,000 units. In reality, only about 46,000 Cybertrucks have been built and sold since its debut earlier this year. While Tesla prepares to increase output for some models, the Cybertruck’s path to mass production remains uncertain for now.
