Honda Motor Co. President Toshihiro Mibe announced on Thursday that the company will work with Nissan Motor Co. and Mitsubishi Motors Corp. on electric vehicle (EV) development, but only on a case-by-case basis.
Speaking at Honda’s general shareholders meeting in Tokyo, Mibe said the automaker will pursue collaboration only when it sees clear benefits based on the business environment.
He confirmed that discussions among the three companies are ongoing but did not specify when an agreement might be reached.
When asked about the possibility of restarting management integration talks with Nissan—discussions that ended in February—Mibe said there are no plans to resume talks “for the time being,” though he did not rule out the option entirely.
On the topic of U.S. President Donald Trump’s high tariff policies, Mibe said Honda is boosting production in the United States to reduce the impact.
