Wizz Air Takes Delivery of First Pratt & Whitney Powered A321XLR

by sthv

Hungary-based Wizz Air has received its first Airbus A321XLR aircraft. This makes the airline the first in the world to operate the A321XLR powered by Pratt & Whitney GTF engines. It is also the first European low-cost carrier to fly this aircraft type.

Wizz Air’s A321XLR has 239 seats in a single-class layout. The cabin features the new Airspace design, which includes an innovative lighting system. This system offers different settings to create the right atmosphere during various stages of the flight, such as boarding, dining, relaxing, sleeping, and waking up. By adding the A321XLR to its fleet, Wizz Air aims to improve connections between Europe and the Middle East.

Wizz Air operates an all-Airbus fleet. It currently has over 230 A320 Family aircraft in service and expects 295 more to be delivered. The A321XLR is the latest version of the A320neo Family. It meets airlines’ needs for longer range and greater payload, offering more flexibility and value.

The A321XLR can fly up to 4,700 nautical miles, which is extra-long range. It uses 30% less fuel per seat than previous generation aircraft from competitors. It also produces lower nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions and less noise. Airbus has already received more than 500 orders for the A321XLR.

Like all Airbus planes, the A321XLR can use up to 50% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) today. Airbus plans to have its aircraft capable of flying with 100% SAF by 2030.
