PD Ports, based in Middlesbrough, has announced plans to create one of the UK’s largest offshore wind manufacturing and installation hubs, the Teesport Offshore Gateway. Covering 180 acres, the site will provide facilities for manufacturing, assembly, marshalling, and supply chain services for the offshore wind industry.
The proposed £200 million project, located on the River Tees, will include a deep-water quay up to 1km long, offering direct access to the North Sea for both floating and fixed-bottom offshore wind projects. Situated within the Teesport complex—one of the UK’s largest ports—the site benefits from strong infrastructure, excellent transport connections, and a skilled workforce.
Although the project is still in the early planning stages and will require consent adjustments, it is designed to support the UK’s offshore wind goals with essential port facilities.
Frans Calje, CEO of PD Ports, emphasized the company’s commitment to renewable energy, stating: “As the UK and the wider world shift towards large-scale renewable energy sources, PD Ports sees an opportunity—and a responsibility—to contribute by offering a dedicated offshore wind development site. We believe this facility will create significant jobs, stimulate growth, and provide skill development opportunities for our coastal communities.”
