Epson Atmix Corporation, a subsidiary of Seiko Epson based in Aomori, Japan, has officially opened a new $38 million recycling facility at its Kita-Inter Plant No. 2. This facility will recycle metals from both Epson’s operations and the local community to create raw materials for the company’s metal powder products.
The project was first announced in 2022, with construction beginning in 2023.
The recycling process will focus on used metal powders, production scraps, and metal offcuts from Epson Group operations. These materials will be refined into high-quality raw materials, which will then be used to produce metal powders for Metal Injection Molding (MIM) at Atmix’s headquarters and Kita-Inter Plant.
Epson emphasized its dedication to environmental sustainability, particularly in resource recycling and carbon reduction. As part of its Environmental Vision 2050, the company aims to become carbon negative and free from reliance on underground resources by 2050. The new recycling facility is expected to play a significant role in achieving these goals.
Atmix manufactures various types of metal powders used in processes like MIM and Additive Manufacturing. The company also produces magnetic powders for power supply circuits, IT equipment coils, and components for hybrid and electric vehicles.
