Ceratizit has introduced the MaxiMill-Slot-SNHX side-milling cutter system, designed for cutting grooves in materials such as steel, stainless steel, castings, and aluminum. This new system offers a range of cutting widths, from 6mm to 16mm, and diameters between 50mm and 200mm. The system is praised for its ability to ensure smooth machining, even in hard-to-reach areas.
The MaxiMill-Slot-SNHX cutters feature precision-ground indexable inserts, which deliver flat groove bases and high-quality surfaces from the very first cut. The system’s innovative design includes trouble-free contours and sufficient axial freedom, making it easy to use even in tight spaces.
Versatile Carrier Options
The MaxiMill-Slot-SNHX system comes in three carrier variants to suit various machining needs. The slip-on milling cutters are available in diameters ranging from 80mm to 200mm and offer cutting widths of 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, and 16mm. These cutters also include an internal coolant supply for better performance.
Screw-in milling cutters are available in diameters of 50mm, 63mm, and 80mm, with cutting widths of 6mm and 8mm. Like the slip-on cutters, these also feature an internal coolant system. The third option is the cylindrical shank cutter, which comes in diameters of 50mm, 63mm, 80mm, and 100mm, with cutting widths of 6mm and 8mm. These, too, offer internal coolant supply.
Precision and Easy Handling
The indexable inserts in the MaxiMill-Slot-SNHX are precision-ground, making them suitable for various applications, including P, M, and K materials. Initially, the inserts are available with a 0.8mm corner radius and a 3-degree axial mounting position. This setup ensures proper clearance and enables rear-side machining. The carriers are clearly labeled to help users easily fit the right and left inserts.
Ceratizit claims that the MaxiMill-Slot-SNHX system outperforms competitor products. In tests involving ductile cast iron, a competitor’s cutter with a 160mm diameter and six active cutting edges could machine 200 parts. In comparison, Ceratizit’s solution, using five active teeth, was able to machine 600 parts, significantly extending tool life. Additionally, the MaxiMill-Slot-SNHX system offers improved handling due to its large insert clamping screw and reduced setup effort, thanks to fewer inserts needed.
