A new air filtration technology developed by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has been integrated into AIRTH’s advanced air purification system, Filtrix. This technology effectively captures particulate matter ranging from PM2.5 to PM1, as well as allergens and airborne pathogens.
AIRTH has already deployed the Filtrix filtration system in over 30,000 air conditioners across India. The company claims that this integration improves indoor air quality while also boosting the efficiency and lifespan of air conditioning units.
In independent tests conducted at a Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE)-certified lab, the Filtrix system showed a 13% reduction in power consumption during continuous operation compared to standard AC systems. After three months of use, the cooling capacity only decreased by 4%, demonstrating that the system is both compatible and safe for long-term use.
The testing also revealed no negative impact on the functioning of existing air conditioners, making the system suitable for widespread residential and commercial use. According to AIRTH, Filtrix offers significant benefits by enhancing air quality while reducing the load on AC units. The system is designed for easy integration with standard air conditioners and provides purification efficiency up to five times greater than in-built purification systems currently available in the market.
Ravi Kaushik, CEO and Founder of AIRTH, and an aerosol scientist from IIT Bombay, highlighted the broader health benefits of the technology. He pointed out that one AIRTH AC purifier can reduce the health risks equivalent to inhaling 1,500 cigarettes, underlining the public health potential of the technology for large-scale use.
Founded with a focus on improving indoor air quality, AIRTH is an environmental technology company committed to developing sustainable solutions to combat air pollution. The company uses advanced filtration and purification technologies, including antimicrobial coatings derived from research conducted at IIT Bombay. AIRTH’s products aim to turn everyday household items, like curtains and cushions, into air purifiers, making clean air more accessible in homes, offices, and public spaces. Through its innovative solutions, AIRTH strives to create healthier living environments while raising awareness about the importance of clean air.
