Canadian power generator manufacturer AVL Manufacturing is expanding to North Carolina, creating more than 325 new jobs in Charlotte, Governor Josh Stein announced on Thursday.
The Ontario-based company plans to open a new production facility in Mecklenburg County. The plant will build custom enclosures for industrial power generators. As part of the expansion, AVL is launching a U.S. branch called AVL USA Inc., investing $56 million into the new site.
“North Carolina’s strong track record in advanced manufacturing continues to draw top companies like AVL,” said Gov. Stein. “With the largest manufacturing workforce in the Southeast and excellent community college training, we offer the tools companies need to thrive.”
AVL Manufacturing specializes in building custom industrial enclosures for large standby power generators. These units are used in critical infrastructure, including backup systems for large-scale and hyperscale data centers.
To support the move, the North Carolina Department of Commerce awarded AVL USA a performance-based grant of $100,000 through the One North Carolina Fund. The grant is tied to the creation of 122 specific jobs.
The average salary for those 122 positions will be $90,088, slightly higher than Mecklenburg County’s current average wage of $86,830.
Officials expect the new facility to boost local employment and strengthen Charlotte’s growing industrial and energy sector.
