Topeka to Launch Bike Parts Vending Machine for Local Cyclists

by sthv

Cyclists in Topeka will soon have easier access to essential bike parts, thanks to a new vending machine set to open later this month.

The Topeka Community Cycle Project (TCCP) announced it will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the vending machine on May 27. The machine, located at the Shawnee County Central Park Community Center at 1534 SW Clay Street, will provide cyclists with common replacement parts including brake pads, shift cables, caliper pads, bike chains, inner tubes, and handlebar tape.

“The idea behind this machine is simple,” said Doug Hickman, a board member of TCCP. “Sometimes, all it takes is a single tube or cable to get home safely. We want to remove the fear and inconvenience of bike repairs by making tools and parts easier to get—even if it starts with a vending machine.”

The initiative is supported by Azura Credit Union, which helped redesign and fund the transformation of an older vending machine. The updated version features a new custom wrap that reflects the local cycling community.

“This is about more than fixing bikes,” Hickman said. “It’s about being a resource. We’re here for everyone—from experienced riders to those just learning.”

The vending machine will operate Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Saturdays from noon to 3 p.m. It accepts cash only.

The official launch event will take place at noon on May 27, with community members invited to attend.
