RML Group Ltd, a specialist in high-performance automotive engineering, has received Conformity of Production (CoP) certification for its battery systems. This marks a first for the company and a significant step toward supplying major automotive manufacturers.
The certification follows a detailed audit by UCA, an independent body appointed by regulatory authorities. It confirms that RML’s battery systems meet the safety standards of UN ECE Regulation 100, which governs electric vehicle powertrain components. It also verifies that the company can manufacture these products consistently and at scale.
“This is an important step forward for RML,” said James Arkell, Head of Powertrain at RML Group. “It shows the strength of our technical capabilities and the quality standards we follow. Performance is a core part of what we offer, but doing it safely and reliably is just as important. This certification reinforces that to the industry.”
CoP certification is widely seen as a basic requirement for suppliers aiming to work with large original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). It shows that a company can not only design to strict safety standards but also build products that meet them repeatedly and reliably.
The certification moves RML into the category of Tier One-capable suppliers and supports the company’s broader efforts to homologate its VarEVolt battery platform. This approval also opens the door for RML to pursue larger-scale contracts beyond prototype or low-volume production.
“This certification sets us apart from many smaller start-ups in the electric vehicle space,” Arkell added. “It shows we are ready to scale up from niche production to full-scale supply.”
Founded in 1984 by Ray Mallock, RML Group has built a strong reputation in performance engineering. The company works across short-run manufacturing, continuation cars, advanced battery technology, and bespoke motorsport programmes — all guided by its founding principle of engineering excellence.
