LG CNS Co., the IT services branch of LG Group, announced Tuesday that it has entered a strategic partnership with American robotics startup Skild AI. This marks the first collaboration of its kind between a South Korean company and Skild AI.
As part of the deal, LG CNS invested in Skild AI through its Silicon Valley venture capital unit, LG Technology Ventures.
The company did not reveal the exact amount of the investment. The goal is to gain access to Skild AI’s key technology, the Robot Foundation Model.
The Robot Foundation Model is an AI system trained on large amounts of behavioral data, plus language, image, and video inputs from sensors. This allows robots to work effectively in various environments and perform different tasks.
Separately, Samsung has also committed $10 million to Skild AI. It will join SoftBank and Nvidia Corp in the startup’s Series B funding round, according to a report by Bloomberg.
