Work Begins on 20 MW Power Supply Project for Gwadar Port

by sthv

Work has officially started on a project to provide a 20 MW power supply to Gwadar Port and the Gwadar Free Zone South. The project, which is being funded through the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP), is estimated to cost Rs 727.738 million, according to Gwadar Pro on Sunday.

The Quetta Electric Supply Company (QUESCO) has already delivered the required infrastructure, including power cables and poles, to the project site. The installation of electricity poles is now underway.

A QUESCO official stated that four independent feeders, each with a capacity of 5 MW, will provide power to both Gwadar Port and the Gwadar Free Zone South. These feeders will be connected to the Deep Sea Port grid station. Once completed, the project will meet the long-term power needs of the port. The project is expected to be finished by the end of June this year.

The QUESCO official also mentioned that the company has already supplied 10 MW of electricity to the Gwadar North Free Zone. This has benefited investors and companies operating in the zone since its establishment last year. Prior to this, Gwadar Port relied on an expensive 8.5 MW diesel-powered generator, which resulted in high operational costs.
